“As an artist with aphantasia, I recall without visual imagery- navigation is mapped through somatic feeling, embodied memory and abstracted spatial understanding.”

- Huy Lim Kha

“Huy Lim” Kha, is an artist born in Sydney, on Cabrogal land in Dharug country. Kha’s parents migrated to Australia with Cambodian and Chinese cultural heritage.

Kha is fascinated by reminiscence and the act of memory recall. Kha visualises her memories through recollective storytelling and memorialisation. Her formal works explore memory, post-migrant cultural identity with various homelands, historical trauma and layers of neurodivergence. Using various modes of painting and illustration, Kha finds refuge in reconstructing landscapes to unveil ‘glimpses’ of clarity.

Kha’s curiosity led her into a career of arts and health in clinical spaces. Kha completed her Honours degree in Fine Arts at the University of New South Wales Art & Design.

“If the mind’s eye cannot retain, then the embodied memories shall set me free.”
